In just a couple days after its release, Pokemon Go took the top spot as the biggest mobile game in US history.
The game beat out previous record holders such as Draw Something at 16 million and Candy Crush at 20 million.
After three days of its release, Pokemon Go had gained more users than Twitter and was number one on the App Store’s revenue charts.
16. Man Catches Pidgey as Wife is About to Gives Birth
Pokemon Go player, John Theriot spotted a Pidgey while his wife was about to give birth and he had to catch it. Speaking with Buzzfeed.com, Johnathan let them know that he and his wife Jessica were waiting to have the C-section done, when the Pidgey popped up. Johnathan stated that “As soon as it popped up, I was like, oh my gosh, there’s a Pidgey sitting on your bed!” he said. “So, I screenshotted it, then caught it and showed it to her.”
Theriot did admit that some people criticized him for “playing a stupid game while my wife’s in labor,”. He did admit that “she wasn’t mad at all.”
“She just kind of laughed at it,” he said. “It was primarily an eyeroll once she realized what I was doing.”
17. A Teen Got Bitten by a Snake Playing Pokemon Go
A North Texas teen is recovering after being bitten by a venomous snake while playing the wildly popular and increasingly controversial Pokemon GO game.
According to the Star Telegram, Lane Smith, 18, along with his friends were walking around a park, when they noticed that a “Pokestation or Pokestop” was nearby. Smith was so engrossed with the game he did not notice a snake on the walkway. Unfortunately for the teen who was wearing flip-flops, he stepped on the snake, which is believed to be a copperhead and was bitten.
The bite was not life threatening as the doctors determined Smith did not need anti-venom and was released the same afternoon.
18. Teen Hit by Car After Playing Pokemon Go
A 15-year-old teen, Autumn Diesroth, was struck by a car after playing the popular “Pokemon Go” game.
Local news WPXI reported that the accident happened when her daughter had just finished playing the game and was attempting to cross the street. Autumn’s mother explained that she had lent her daughter her phone so that she could play Pokemon Go and 30 minutes she got a call that said Autumn had been struck by car.
“The Pokemon game took her across a major highway at 5 o’clock in the evening, which is rush hour,” her mother said. “No game is worth a child’s life.”
The driver who hit the teen, stopped and held her daughter’s hand until she was taken to the hospital.
19. 2 Pokemon Go Plaeyrs Arrested for Jumping the Fence of the Zoo
Twenty-five-year old Robin Bartholomy and 26-year-old Adrian Crawford, both of Toledo, were arrested while playing Pokemon Go after they climbed over a fence at the Toledo Zoo, according to WLWT 5.
The two were arrested for criminal trespass, after they were spotted on a zoo security camera. The two had jumped the fence near the zoo’s tiger enclosure because they were trying to see if any Pokemon in that section.
20. Cemetery Where Rosa Parks is Buried, Is Fed Up of ‘Pokemon Go’ Players
Woodlawn Cemetery, where Rosa Parks, the civil rights icon is buried, has seen an increase in traffic, due to players trying to catch a Pokemon and they are not pleased.According to TMZ, the extra traffic has become disruptive, as players are on the cemetery ground during funeral services. TMZ also states that it is happening at numerous cemeteries around the country.
21.Pokemon Go Players Find Love Playing the Game
Pokemon Go is getting people out of the house and they are also meeting random people who they surprisingly have an amazing connection with. Stories abound of people playing the game and going out on dates with other players they meet.
On Reddit, one user posted their story in the thread “Pokémon Go got me a date.” User UnityTreeofSavior explained that he was walking around town after dinner as we was trying to hatch a Pokemon egg. He ended up meeting a girl who asked if he was playing the game. That conversation led to them going out on a date the next day.
John Seo, a 25-year-old from New Jersey, spoke with the Wall Street Journal and explained that while he was out with friends hunting Pokemon he ended up meeting a girl. “I just asked her out toward the end,” he told the newspaper. “I’ve never met a stranger and felt so connected. It’s like you shared the same childhood.”
